One of the biggest changes customers talk about when using GLP-1 medication isn’t always what happens on the scales. It’s what happens in their head.
That constant thinking about food, What shall I eat? What’s for dinner? I deserve a treat. Shall we get a takeaway? may become much quieter. People often call this “food noise.”
At first, that can feel incredibly freeing. But it can also feel a little strange.
When food was more than food
For many of us, food has been part of everyday life for years. A Friday night takeaway, cake to celebrate, chocolate after a difficult day or meeting friends for lunch. So when your appetite and interest in food change, you may find yourself thinking: what do I do instead?
This can be a lovely opportunity to find new things that give you the same sense of enjoyment. Try going for a walk, picking up an old hobby, meeting a friend for something that doesn’t revolve around food, or finding a type of movement you genuinely enjoy.
You don’t need to reinvent your life overnight. Small changes count, the important step is to try something different and make a note about how you feel after the activity. Hopefully after time the activity you found easiest and made you happy will become your new healthy habit. If you find you are struggling , please do go and chat to your GP or provider and they can support you .
Don’t forget nutrition when you’re eating less
Eating smaller portions can make it more important to think about the quality and variety of the food you do eat. Protein, fibre, fruit and vegetables and plenty of fluids can all form part of a balanced diet.
Some adults also choose to use supplements alongside their diet during their weight-loss journey. Supplements aren’t a substitute for food or a varied, balanced diet, and they don’t replace your GLP-1 medication. They can simply be a convenient way of supplementing your normal diet where appropriate.
At Nourish & Thrive UK, we have a range of vitamins and supplements selected with people navigating weight loss and changing eating habits in mind.
